Research Engineer Human AI

FUNCTION

Flanders Make researches and introduces emerging technologies and tools such as tablets, wearables, interactive vision systems, cobots, etc. in a production environment. Through our research, we want to help manufacturing companies innovate by simplifying the demanding work of operators, both cognitively and ergonomically. We take away any fear of technology and support companies in their next steps towards 'the factory of the future'.

As a Research Engineer Human AI, you will promote these innovative technologies and map the boundaries of existing market solutions. In doing so, you offer new possibilities that are worth exploring. You build and maintain open relationships with industrial partners and their production workers, so that you really understand their context and needs.

You will analyze the requirements and integrate the selected technologies into software solutions. Part of your time will be spent on developing and programming interfaces (e.g. in Python, C++), for interactive work instructions, among other things. You will ensure the integration of intelligent AI components within existing human-machine interfaces Human Machine Interface (HMI).

Tasks:

You will explore new ways to support operators and push state of the art, on the one hand staying informed of what exists and what can be done within FM and thus finding an entrance into the industry. You will look for methods such as smart HMIs and AI-supported tools (chatbots, digital assistants, voice interfaces), and modules based on Augmented Reality (AR/VR/XR) that can help production workers in the Flemish manufacturing industry.

You actively identify and present industrial challenges and research opportunities within the Flanders Make network.

You validate your solution on robust demonstration devices, in-house or at partner companies, demonstrating the added value of your technology to the industry.

You will closely follow new software development practices and actively detect industry challenges and research opportunities, which you will also present to the wider public.

You are willing to do literature reviews, write research projects, publish at conferences and share your own research results to strengthen our position in Europe.

OFFER

You will work within a multidisciplinary research team with expertise in software development, human-centered solutions, model-based design, AI & data analytics, computer vision, IoT, robotics and AR/VR/XR applications, combined with a strong understanding of industrial practices.

You will have a job with an impact on industry, science and technology. You create levers and synergies within Flanders Make and far beyond.
