Purchasing (WOO) & Safety Responsible

As a growing research centre, we are looking for a Purchasing and Safety Responsible. On the one hand, this person will ensure an efficient purchasing policy that is in line with the Law on Public Procurement and, to this purpose, draw up, implement and follow up the necessary guidelines. On the other hand, as an internal prevention officer, you will be responsible for keeping safe work practices high on our agenda and will define actions to improve our safety procedures in consultation with management.

You are responsible for the purchasing processes at Flanders Make. Within the scope of our research projects, we buy a lot of technological equipment. In addition, we regularly hire subcontractors to carry out projects. You will be the sounding board of our researchers when drawing up specifications, assist them during their negotiations with suppliers and guarantee that all purchases are made in line with the Law on Public Procurement – Wet op de Overheidsopdrachten (WOO).

In addition, as safety supervisor, you will provide the necessary procedures and resources so that our researchers can perform their tasks in a safe lab environment with various prototypes of new machines, vehicles and robotic cells. You will define the necessary actions based on guidelines and risk analyses, implement the necessary changes, ensure that information is known and adjust where necessary (plan-do-act-check). Your approach will motivate colleagues to work safely.

Your responsibilities:

  • Purchasing. You will:
    • Draw up & implement purchasing processes within Flanders Make, based on efficiency, quality of purchases, cost and compliance with WOO legislation;
    • Proactively identify opportunities for concluding (framework) contracts;
    • Support colleagues in preparing the necessary documents for the purchasing process;
    • Follow up the purchasing process;
    • Have ultimate responsibility for compliance with WOO procedures;
    • If necessary, contact our external lawyer;
    • Coordinate audits on our purchases by subsidising bodies.
  • Safety. You will
    • Apply a dynamic safety risk management system;
    • Support colleagues in drawing up risk analyses and safety instruction cards and in setting up safe laboratory set-ups;
    • Translate legislation into practical procedures.

You will work from one of our sites (Kortrijk, Lommel or Leuven) and are willing to visit our other sites on a regular basis for consultation moments.

  • Education & experience – at least a bachelor's degree, preferably in a technological area of study. About four years of experience in purchasing or safety, preferably in a technological environment.
  • Adaptability You will work in a rapidly changing organisation. With your drive and flexibility, you will ensure that you keep abreast and contribute to the further growth of our company.
  • Analytical thinking – You are analytically strong and able to translate spending patterns into a purchasing policy and to draw up a correct price comparison in complex procurement files.
  • Communication – You communicate in a clear and transparent manner with both management and colleagues. You also have sufficient powers of persuasion to make employees understand the importance of correct purchasing and safety procedures.
  • Multilingualism – You communicate fluently in Dutch, French and English so that you can properly cooperate with all your colleagues, partners and stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of the Public Procurement Act;
  • Knowledge of Exact Globe and Exact Synergy;
  • Knowledge of subsidy regulations;
  • Diploma of Prevention Officer Level 3.

- A job with a great deal of autonomy within a stimulating working environment with short lines of communication.

- Being part of a growing, dynamic business with a top team of young and international researchers.

  • Location: Leuven, Lommel or Kortrijk
