Research Engineer Human AI (LLM & VR)

FUNCTION

Flanders Make researches and introduces emerging technologies such as AI, smart Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), data analysis, interactive work instructions and supporting digital tools in industrial environments. With our projects, we help manufacturing companies to make work more efficient, ergonomic and workable, with a particular focus on the acceptance of technology by operators.

For our Human-Centered AI & Assembly Systems team, we are looking for a Research Engineer Human AI with a highly applied and hands-on profile, who not only designs solutions but also integrates, programs, tests and validates them in a lab and industrial context.

Your Role

As a Research Engineer Human AI, you will mainly work from Kortrijk and the focus will be on making Human AI solutions operational. You translate research results and technology concepts into working demonstrators and applications for companies, thus supporting the bridge between research and industrial implementation.

You will work closely with colleagues in Kortrijk and Leuven and with industrial partners, and actively participate in projects around smart work instructions, accelerated training and AI support for production workers through data-driven applications for future-proof production environments.

PROFILE

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, AI, data-related domain or similar (PhD is a plus, not a must);
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in an industrial, research or PWO context;
  • Strong hands-on programming experience, preferably in Python;
  • Experience with or strong interest in: AI solutions in an industrial context, Data analytics, LLMs (more than "user level"), Cloud environments (e.g. Azure – plus);
  • Affinity with production environments and understanding of operator acceptance and implementation challenges;
  • Conceptual thinking is important, but you get energy from building, testing and operationalizing;
  • Enterprising, takes initiative and likes to keep several projects moving in parallel;
  • Strong communication skills and smooth collaboration in multidisciplinary teams.

OUR OFFER

  • An impactful role in projects that are directly applicable in the Flemish manufacturing industry;
  • Working in a multidisciplinary team with expertise in AI, software, human-centric solutions, robotics and infrastructure;
  • Plenty of room to grow towards more project responsibility;
  • Close collaboration with industrial partners and research institutions;
  • An open, warm working atmosphere with a lot of technical depth and pragmatism;
  • Attractive salary, supplemented with fringe benefits;
  • Flexible working regime (minimum 80%, preferred full-time).
